Philippines Two Pesos
2005.1.1
The Philippines came under the control of the United States after the defeat of Spain in the Spanish-American War. This bill was issued by the Treasury of the Philippines but under the authority of the United States during the period of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, from 1935 to 1946. The Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II and most foreigners that were able to escape, did. This bill was in the wallet of Robert Burrows, who had been working in the Philippines as a contractor, when he escaped Manilla just before the Japanese arrived.
